Are you prepared? By Paul Teel, WB5ANX It’s September and that brings a focus on being prepared. Ready.gov raises awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. Oklahoma is no stranger to disasters and taking time to be prepared is a smart thing. Preparedness takes many forms. Food, water, power are the most common ways people prepare. Within the Amateur Radio community, we focus on communications preparedness. Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) is a group of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment, with their local ARES leadership, for […]
Masonic Lodges on the Air Event to Take Place on September 24
Masonic Lodges on the Air (MLotA), an amateur radio special event, will be on the air Saturday, September 24, 2022, from locations across the county. The event is open to all amateur radio operators, and the idea for the event grew out of the realization that many Freemasons also have a love for amateur radio. The Fulton County Amateur Radio Club (FCARC) and the Fulton Lodge #248 in Ohio first hosted the event in 2021. Because of its success, the event has now been scheduled for the next 3 years. The event will be operating K8BXQ from 10:00 AM – […]

THE PRESIDENT’S CORNER
Have you been monitoring the Superlink System lately? If you have then you know that there’s been some low power/low volume issues on the 443.850 repeater. This repeater is one of 16 linked repeaters that provide service to the Northeast Oklahoma, Southeast Kansas and Northwest Ar-kansas areas for those times when severe weather rolls through. Fortunately, this has been a fairly mild storm season and there have not been too many occasions for the Weather Watch or the WX5TUL Weather Net to be activated. However, because of the large coverage area of the Superlink System, it does get a lot […]
