CW Group

Monday CW night.  7.037 Mhz 7:00 pm local

(If QRM, down 0.0005 till clear)

We originally chose 40 meters for this for 2 reasons, 1 – we had technicians who were involved in the CW class and 40 meters has CW privileges for Technicians and 2 – it works pretty good for local contacts during sunlight hours in most cases.  After the grey line passes, 40 meters runs longer.

This is NOT a traditional NET format with all the confusing Q codes and such.  It is simply someone calling CQ, CQ NNN looking for contacts.  More contest like than a net style.  Hopefully to get us all more comfortable with getting our callsign out via morse code.

If you only want to send your callsign, provide signal report and city, state or full QTH, that is entirely up to you.  The CQ calling station will support and provide the same back to you.  You can also include SKCC numbers if you wish.  Totally flexible.  Speeds are as slow as you need.  CQ Calling station will come back to you at about the same speed you send your callsign.

Example QSO:

CQ CQ CQ de KI5EGH KI5EGH KI5EGH K

WA5MA

WA5MA de KI5EGH (GE, TU or FB) ur RST 5NN 599 OK OK  BK

KI5EGH de WA5MA (GE, TU, FB) send a signal report as you wish include QTH/STATE or whatever you feel like sending. BK

CQ calling station will respond in kind.

Then will close with

WA5MA de KI5EGH TU ES 73 73 SK EE

KI5EGH de WA5MA TU ES 73 SK EE

Thursday CW night.  7 :00 pm

We will kick off the Sooner Sprint 2026 each Thursday at 7:oo pm CDT (00:00 UTC) until 8:oopm CDT (0100UTC)

Thursdays is a little higher speed possibly.  We will still only go as fast as you do.

See the Sooner Sprint 2026 contest page for details.  But basically, an hour long contest QSO event for Oklahoma stations as well as DX stations.  Logs can be submitted as per the Sooner Sprint page.  However, the results will only be provided on a quarterly basis and will be listed on the Sooner Sprint page.

sample QSO:

KI5EGH de WA5MA TU UR RST 599 5NN (59 SSB) TUL TUL BK

WA5MA de KI5EGH TU FER QSO ES 73 SK EE

KI5EGH de WA5MA TU ES 73 SK EE

That is all there is to it.  For the new hams out there, this is intended to be an easy low pressure way to get more comfortable with contesting.  So give it a shot and join in.  If you are an old salt at contesting, there is room for you too.  Take part and lead the way for a home grown contest.  Once you have contacted me on 7.037 MHz, change frequency and start calling CQ SS yourself!  Start racking up the QSO’s!

We will log in QRZ (which uploads to LOTW).

Here are some recommendations for your shack.

For logging;

HamRS is a popular and simple log that can be used in the field for POTA/SOTA or in the shack for contesting.  It provides easy ADIF exporting, contact maps and more.  Easy to download and set up.  Also able to create your own log templates.

For RBN checks:

HamAlert

For RBN reports from your own station or others you want notifications from when they are on the air.  It is how I can gage how I am getting out during CW nights
