April 2022 Council Camporee

Saturday’s weather started out a bit rough for those practicing amateur radio outdoors in the elements but that didn’t stop Andrew Shead (W5AWS) and Jack Conway (W5JHC) from heading out to Camp Garland to setup a portable operations demonstration to scouters at the 2022 Council Camporee! This couldn’t have been accomplished without support from the TARC trailer headed up by Steve Childers (KF5VCQ) broadcasting under the W5IAS callsign at the Claremore Hamfest. This also couldn’t have been done without Paul Teel (WB5ANX) securing our spot at another council event and Mark Adams (WA5MA) providing flyers and QSL cards for those […]

TARC Boy Scouts Merit Badge

Paul (WB5ANX) and myself (W5JHC) had the pleasure and honor to host a radio merit badge for Troop 199 out of Oologah Ok during two of their Monday meetings! This was one of the firsts for the TARC communication trailer and went off without a hitch and had 9 scouters practice their skills and discuss the topic of Amateur Radio. I hope one day to do a larger scale merit badge for the council so that we can work on growing the younger population to the hobby. What amazed both Paul and I was that they were really interested in […]

We are coming back to the virtual world October 25-30, 2021! More Info

Boy Scouts Council Camporee 2021

Paul and I didn’t know what to expect when our two separate paths collided with the same goal of introducing the ham radio hobby to young men, women, boys, and girls of the Indian Nations Council. We had a vision to try and do two events this year but we would start with one that we know some scouts would already attend. So we set the bar low at one scout on the air and we ended up with 27! But the small feat of just getting the TARC trailer out to John Zink Ranch was the easy part. We […]

TARC Needs Your Support!

We have been asked to participate in the Boy Scouts Camporee happening the weekend of 10/2. We are in need of at least 2 volunteers to spend the day out at John Zinc from at least 10am-4:30 pm. Our primary objective will be to introduce scouters to Ham radio and get them on the air! Lunch will be provided by the BSA. Two weeks from then we are also looking for some help on 10/16 for another similar scouting event that is a national event called Jamboree on the Air. This event will have a different twist in the hopes […]

TARC Monthly Meeting

The next meeting of the Tulsa Amateur Radio Club is Tuesday, July 20th, 7 PM across from the TU parking lot, in the shade. Portable operations and go boxes will be discussed. If you have a go box and portable antenna, bring it out so we can see it. If you ordered a TARC shirt and haven’t received it, those will be available. Talk in is the 145.110 repeater.

TARC Field Day

The Tulsa Amateur Radio Club Field Day is Saturday at Chandler Park across from the water park. Set up starts at 9 AM. The Comm trailer will be there and is available for all to use as well as the GOTA (Get On The Air) station, even if you don’t have your license! The ARES Go Box will be up and running as well as other portable operations, satellite comms, National Traffic System comms and a BBQ dinner. The weather forecast is questionable right now so check in on the repeater if in doubt. Talk in is the 145.110 repeater. Come and […]
