SUMMARY:NARCfest 2024 Nixa\, MO
DESCRIPTION:HAMFEST/CONVENTION \nThe Nixa ARC hamfest is used to raise funds to support the Southwest Missouri Linked Repeater System of which the Nixa ARC is a founding partner. In 2024\, we were able to add a new repeater in Golden City\, MO to help cover the Joplin\, Barton County and other areas out into Kansas and Oklahoma much better. This repeater is linked to the SMLRS 100% of the time and can be accessed on 146.790-\, PL 91.5 Hz. This repeater was made possible by funds from past successful hamfests and we thank everyone that’s been involved. This fall\, we have plans to completely overhaul the 147.015+ PL 162.2 Hz Springfield East repeater and it should be ready to show off by this year’s hamfest. We have aspirations to greatly improve our Branson 146.655- PL 91.5 Hz repeater if we can raise the funds this year but we need almost $14\,000 to make the new site a reality. \n11/09/2024\nStart Date: 11/09/2024\nEnd Date: 11/09/2024\nLocation: Aldersgate Church\n460 Aldersgate Drive\nNixa\, MO 65714\nWebsite: https://smlrs.info/hamfest-information/\nSponsor: Nixa Amateur Radio Club\, Inc.\nType: ARRL Hamfest\nTalk-In: 147.015 MHz PL 162.2 Hz\nPublic Contact: Paul Hulett \, KE0MPI\n4525 S. SUMMARY:Route 66 on the Air
DESCRIPTION:Route 66 \nRoute 66 On The Air is from 9/7 – 9/15. \nWe will meet 9/14 at Haikey Creek to setup our portable stations and join the crowd! \nTalk in is the 145.110 repeater. \nDon’t forget to purchase your 100th Anniversary coffee mugs\, shirts\, etc. \n \nBackground on “ The Mother Road”\nU.S. Highway 66 was established in 1926\, was the first major improvement to link the west coast with the nations heartland. \nThrough stories\, songs and TV shows\, the highway came to symbolize the spirit of the freedom of the open road\, inspiring many to see America. \nHowever\, the demise of Route 66 began in the 1950’s as the U.S. began it’s interstate highway system\, and the highway was officially decommissioned in 1986. Today\, small portions of the U.S. Highway 66 still exist in towns and rural areas in several states. \nBackground on Route 66 On The Air Special Event\nOriginally started by the Northern Arizona DX Association\, it was a way to allow amateur radio operators a fun way to “Relive the Ride.” They also can relive their own memories of Route 66\, and get to celebrate the highway’s rich history in making the U.S. what it is today. \nCitrus Belt Amateur Radio Club (CBARC) in San Bernardino\, CA took over the event a couple years later and has grown into one of the best special amateur radio events each year. \nAmateur radio clubs using special 1×1 callsigns operate from cities on or near the route from coast to coast. Hundreds of operators worldwide aim to contact as many radio operators as possible who would like to take part in this annual event.

Licensed radio operators (often called “Hams”) spend the weekend practicing community outreach\, emergency preparedness\, and technical skills. It’s basically radio heaven. \nA contest is held each year with individuals\, clubs\, and teams trying to make contact with as many stations as possible over 24 hours. Field Day will take place on June 22 and June 23 with over 35\,00 people expected to take part. It begins at 18:00 UTC Saturday and runs through 20:59 UTC Sunday. Pack your camping equipment\, throw up some temporary antennas\, and spin the dials on your radio\, because this not-to-be-missed event is rich in history\, tradition\, and technology. \nAll hams or non-hams are invited and you don’t have to be a club member to participate.
