SUMMARY:Huntsville Hamfest - Huntsville AL
DESCRIPTION:The origins of the Huntsville Hamfest date back to August 1954 when the annual North Alabama Hamfest alternated between the communities of Huntsville\, Decatur\, and Florence.  After a few years the Hamfest was held in Decatur in the odd numbered years and in Huntsville in the even numbered years.  The Huntsville location was in the lobby of what was known as “The Mall”\, located at the corner of University Drive and the Parkway\, and was a one-day (Sunday) event with an outdoor flea market and a Saturday night banquet.  Several ham organizations used upstairs rooms for meetings but there were no forums. \nIn 1980 the North Alabama Hamfest used the just-opened Von Braun Center.  It was still a one-day event but now the Flea Market was indoors and there were much better facilities for meetings & forums. With the success of the 1980 event\, in 1981 the North Alabama Hamfest became the Huntsville Hamfest\, a two-day event with forums\, meetings\, and other activities on both days.

DESCRIPTION:More Info To Come \n  \nRoute 66 \n  \n \nBackground on “ The Mother Road”\nU.S. Highway 66 was established in 1926\, was the first major improvement to link the west coast with the nations heartland. \nThrough stories\, songs and TV shows\, the highway came to symbolize the spirit of the freedom of the open road\, inspiring many to see America. \nHowever\, the demise of Route 66 began in the 1950’s as the U.S. began it’s interstate highway system\, and the highway was officially decommissioned in 1986. Today\, small portions of the U.S. Highway 66 still exist in towns and rural areas in several states. \nBackground on Route 66 On The Air Special Event\nOriginally started by the Northern Arizona DX Association\, it was a way to allow amateur radio operators a fun way to “Relive the Ride.” They also can relive their own memories of Route 66\, and get to celebrate the highway’s rich history in making the U.S. what it is today. \nCitrus Belt Amateur Radio Club (CBARC) in San Bernardino\, CA took over the event a couple years later and has grown into one of the best special amateur radio events each year. \nAmateur radio clubs using special 1×1 callsigns operate from cities on or near the route from coast to coast. Hundreds of operators worldwide aim to contact as many radio operators as possible who would like to take part in this annual event.

DESCRIPTION:2024 data is below.. more to come… This is just a place holder… \nThe Tulsa County Amateur Radio Emergency Services organization will be conducting the annual Simulated Emergency Test (SET).  This is an exercise that tests our processes and skills that we would use during an actual emergency.  The exercise will begin at 0900 on Saturday\, October 5.  We will be using several local repeaters along with Winlink gateways.  We are also coordinating with Rogers County on their SET as well.  Operations begin with volunteers checking in on the Staging Net at 0900 using the 145.110 repeater.  Volunteers will then be given a tasking to change frequencies to another net based upon their skills and training.  We also are planning to conduct a test of our Hospital Net during the exercise. \nICS LINKS \nFor more information\, please contact Paul Teel\, WB5ANX\, Tulsa County ARES Emergency Coordinator at WB5ANX@arrl.net. \n

SUMMARY:Oklahoma Parks On The Air Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Time: TBD\, but the park event permit will be valid from 8AM until 10PM local time. \nLocation: Keystone State Park\, Pavilion #4 (highest point in the park!) \nImportant details:\n\nTARC club members and guests who want to participate in the event are welcome. You will NOT have to pay a park entry fee (normally $10 per car\, except if military veteran or over age 62; check travelok.com for specific details and to register your license plate if you meet one of the two previous criteria) as long as you park your vehicle in the vicinity of Pavilion #4\, where the activation will be held;\n\nClub members who are licensed but do not have a portable setup ARE welcome.  There will be several stations set up for operation\, and operators can cycle in and out\, so there will be opportunities for all to get on the air; \n\nPer the POTA club activation guidelines\, an operator can NOT operate outside of his/her privileges\, even while using the club call sign\, which we will be using. This is different from ARRL Field Day rules\, so be aware.  Technician-class licensees DO have a portion of the 10M phone allocation\, between 28300-28500 kHz\, and there is generally a lot of activity there for POTA events provided the band conditions permit.  Also\, everything from 6M up is available\, and it is our intention to operate VHF and UHF simplex (no repeater contacts allowed!) during our activation\, so those are also possibilities;\nDon’t forget that TARC has two HF go-kits with nearly everything you will need for a portable station activation\, so this may be an option for some’\n*ALL* HF stations will be *REQUIRED( to operate with a bandpass filter. NO EXCEPTIONS.  If you do not own a bandpass filter\, there will be filters available for use for all HF bands EXCEPT 30M or 60M.  This requirement is in place to minimize or eliminate interference between the multiple stations that will be operating simultaneously.  If you have bandpass filter(s)\, feel free to bring them\, especially if you have a 30M or 60M filter.  Please mark your filters to ensure you get them back.  Also\, short jumpers would be greatly appreciated;\nAll individual operators will be responsible for his/her own logging\, and all logs must be submitted in the approved .adi format via email to pota@w5ias.com after the event. They will be checked before they are submitted.  Also\, don’t forget that your accurate logs will ensure that both you as the operator and the club as the activator gets credit for your contacts/QSOs;\nDon’t forget appropriate supplies besides any equipment you may bring\, such as food and/or beverages\, chairs\, tables\, sunscreen\, bug spray\, or other outdoor necessities. DESCRIPTION:Location: River West Festival Park. \nStart checking your essential gear: reflective vest\, bike rack (or pickup bed)\, mobile radio with at least 25 watts\, (optional) handheld radio for use when out of vehicle\, first aid kit\, ice chest\, personal comfort items\, cover for seats to be used by sweaty riders\, (optional) bike repair kit\, air pump (TARC has loanable pumps). These are the basic items and you can supplement the list as you see fit. \nThis ride will be using only the APRS units provided by the Tulsa Repeater Organization and the APRS digipeaters provided by TARC. If you have your own APRS\, please plan to use one of the provided units so the unit numbers are more easily tracked on the TRO computer system. Net Control will only be looking for those unit numbers on the mapping sys-tem so outside APRS IDs will not show up on the system for tracking. \nE-mail any questions to me and plan on a good time.
