DESCRIPTION:More Info To Come – Download the Operations PDF \nRoute 66 \nBand Schedule Signup \n  \n  \n \nWelcome to Route 66 on the Air Special Event \nWe are hoping you choose to activate a Special Event Station under the Call Sign W6L \nW6L is a special event call sign for all of North East Oklahoma.  The call is registered and administered by the Tulsa Amateur Radio Club but it is available to all Amateur Clubs and Hams in the area who wish to activate a Special Event Station for Route 66’s 100 year Celebration. \nPurpose of Route 66 On the Air   \nThe purpose of the event is to commemorate the history of the “Mother Road” connecting the east and west United States.  Through stories\, songs and TV shows\, the highway came to symbolize the spirit of the freedom of the open road\, inspiring many to see America. \nRoute 66\, established on November 11th 1926\, as part of the U.S. Highway System\, stretched approximately 2\,448 miles\, from Chicago\, Illinois to Santa Monica\, California\, passing through eight states: Illinois\, Missouri\, Kansas\, Oklahoma\, Texas\, New Mexico\, Arizona and California. Known as the “Main Street of America” and later dubbed the “Mother Road” by John Steinbeck in his 1939 novel The Grapes of Wrath\, it became an iconic symbol of American mobility and opportunity. \nHowever\, the demise of Route 66 began in the 1950’s as the U.S. began its interstate highway system\, and the highway was officially decommissioned in 1986. Today\, small portions of the U.S. Highway 66 still exist in towns and rural areas in several states. \nAlthough much of the original Highway 66 has been rerouted into a fast-moving interstate bypassing many of the small towns and interests of this nation\, we take the week of 12 September2026 to remember and celebrate and share the enthusiasm and memories that Highway 66 represented in it’s time… and even still today. \n25 Special Event Stations under the 1×1 call sign have been set up to commemorate this event.   W6L is the call sign set up for all of Northeast Oklahoma.  Hams all over our area will be On the Air that week\, remembering and making contacts and having conversations celebrating the freedom and opportunities that Route 66 represents. \nBackground on Route 66 On The Air Special Event \nOriginally started by the Northern Arizona DX Association\, it was a way to allow amateur radio operators a fun way to “Relive the Ride.” They also can relive their own memories of Route 66\, and get to celebrate the highway’s rich history in making the U.S. what it is today. \nCitrus Belt Amateur Radio Club (CBARC) in San Bernardino\, CA took over the event a couple years after its inception and has grown into one of the best special amateur radio events each year. \nAmateur radio clubs using special 1×1 callsigns operate from cities on or near the route from coast to coast. SUMMARY:TARC Fox Hunt
DESCRIPTION:Sly Fox (yes that is his name) is on the run. \nHe is leaving a trail of audio disruption everywhere he has been. Traveling from city to city finding just the right ham radio club repeater to utilize. \nSly AKA Beethoven (labeled by repeater administrators) has said he is going to target the Tulsa Amateur Radio Club W5IAS 145.170 repeater on September 26\, 2026 from 10AM – 12PM. \nHe is daring all Tulsa area hams to “Just try and find his hidden transmitter\, Ha! Ha! Ha!” \nKnown Information on the Fox: \nThe transmitter will be broadcasting a 20 second version (poor at best) of Beethovens Ode To Joy from the 9th Symphony. That is how Sly got the nickname Beethoven. The following call sign in CW K1RFG followed by approximately 35 seconds of silence. This is then repeated on and on for two hours. \nPower: 1 watt \nTX Frequency: 144.57000 PL 88.5 \nHunters: \nYou must hunt for the Fox (Beethoven) on 144.57000. \nTesting has confirmed Beethoven (fox transmitter) can  be heard with a 2M YAGI at three miles. If you are not hearing it\, you are not within 3 miles. \nBeethoven can be heard on  a signal stick at 2 miles. \nOnly use 145.170 Repeater to confirm Beethoven is transmitting. Don’t forget  that the cycle is 1 minute. Transmits for 25 seconds followed by a 35 second  pause. If you hunt on 145.170 you will only locate the repeater not the fox. \nIt is recommend that you use a directional antenna like a YAGI. \nOnce you get very close it could be handy to use an attenuator to reduce the  incoming signal making it easier to isolate direction. \nResources: \nThe ARRL has a lot of good information on fox hunting. \nhttps://www.arrl.org/direction-finding \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nrain or shine.
